We load the wood, branches and debris, rake the area, and leave the site clean before we go.
Haul away and cleanup is the part of the job where the wood, brush, chips and mess leave the property. JCC Tree Service hauls debris and cleans up in Yuba City. This is also the part most often left half done, which is why it belongs in the quote in writing and not in a handshake.
A standing tree hides its bulk, and the same canopy on the ground takes up several times the space it did in the air. Branches with all their side growth stack loose and full of gaps, so what looked like one truckload becomes three. Chipping collapses that volume down hard, which is why a chipper on site changes the math on a big job. Logs are the other half, and they do not shrink. A trunk cut into rounds is dense, heavy, and needs equipment or a crew to move, so rounds often end up staged near the driveway and hauled separately.
Firewood rounds have to be cut to length while the saw is still out, because nobody wants to come back and re cut a pile. Say up front whether you want the wood, and if you do, say what length fits your stove or your ring. Say where the stack goes too. Green wood is heavy and wet and needs time and air before it burns well, so the stack spot should be somewhere it can sit off the ground and out of the way. If you do not want it, all of it goes, including the small stuff that is easy to leave in the bushes.
Sawdust blows into everything and settles in gravel, grass and window screens, which is why a real cleanup is blown and raked, not just picked up by hand. Chips are heavier and stay where they land, so they get raked or shoveled. A stump grind leaves a mixed pile of soil and ground wood that has to be raked back into the hole or removed. Set the expectation before the crew leaves: bare ground, raked smooth, or chips left as mulch on the beds. Those are three different results and they look nothing alike.
Every foot between the pile and the truck is carried, and that is labor. A backyard tree behind a narrow side gate, a slope, steps, a pool deck or a locked alley all turn a short job into a long one. Soft ground after rain keeps equipment off the grass and pushes the work back to hand carrying. Point out the sprinklers and the septic lids before anyone rolls a wheelbarrow across them. Clear the drive if you can, since a truck parked close cuts the walk in half. We clean up behind our own tree removals and after brush clearing in Yuba City and the towns we cover.
Cleanup is the promise that gets broken most, because it happens at the end of a long day when the crew wants to go home. We do what we say. No false promises.
